I have a friend that would like me to cut a cocker spaniel portrait.  I told her what I could come up with.  Any suggestions?

See if this link may help you out some...

(check page 5- I think it was for the spanial pattern)..

Here is a catalog of LOTS of free scroll saw patterns.. and under many of the pictures, is a link to the PDF pattern, with variations of the same theme.. so be sure to check them out when you get the chance.. LOTS of great ideas there..

If it's an actual portrait your wanting to do, one of the members here does a great job of turning pictures into patterns.. but I'm sorry, I can't remember who it is now.. Maybe someone else here remembers??

Here is a link to a forum on scroll sawing.. and one of the threads in there had a series of instructions on the basics of how to turn a picture into a scroll saw pattern by one of the moderators by the name of Charlie Dearing (scroll saw expert, artist, author etc).. If I remember right (50/50 shot at that LOL), it was under the Pattern Requests section or General Topics, not long after the forum started (about 6 months ago)..

Here is a link to a thread that shows what some of the PROS use for software, if your thinking of making your own pattern by going that route..

I think there were 2 others in the 'series'... those your on your own to find.. hehehe

Good luck and please let us see how you make out..

    Hope this helps some..

You could just make a copy of any cocker picture and spray adhesive it the wood you want to use.
When my X used to scroll saw work, I did a lot of stuff that way. All you need to do is cut through the picture.
You will still need to drill in the appropiate places as you would with any scroll saw work.
Then just remove the picture, use some mineral spirts to clean the adhesive off the wood and it'll be ready to paint or finish.
Post a picture when you're done, we'd all like to see!!
