Yeah Bill, there is one on each rod that the motor rides on and they tighten against the rods to keep it in place. Check out the pic in the link that Dewey posted. You can see a little better how it is set up. The only difference is on mine, the bolts are on the side of the rods, not on the top of the rods like the pic in that link. |

The next size larger than 1/4 is 5/16 the drill size depends on the thread, coarse (NC) is F (.2570 ) and fine (NF) is I (.2720 ) Since you're going into cast iron you should use the coarse thread. |

Khubert,
I wouldn't be very concerned about cutting into that rail by over-drilling when getting that bolt out. The rail looks like it is connected to the motor mount with a common tapered plumbing thread. In fact, I am guessing the 'rails' are actually make of common 3/4" pipe. If you ding up the pipe, all you'd need to do is turn the rail a bit and you have a whole new surface for the replacement bolt to dig into. Even if that rail couldn't be rotated, you could file a flat to remove the ding and the rail locking would work as well as ever.
The big problem, of course, is going to be getting that very hard Easy-Out out of the way. Can't drill through that critter.

To get the broken EZ-out out, just use a center punch, and a good "rap" with a hammer. The hard steel should shatter, then just pick it out with a piece of bent wire or "dental pick". I've done this a few times, and it seems to me as the easiest way. GOOD LUCK eeyore |

Ok, I finally got time to work on this thing.  I got the busted EZ out out of the hole and drilled it to the rod. I got the motor rod assemble off.  Now I have to tap the hole and put a bolt in it.  Here is what is left of the bolt that was in there. It's a fuzzy picture, but I think you get the idea.   Kerry |
