I am finally getting around to finishing up the north run of the DC project.  I hope to have some photos available for your critiquing by the end of the weekend.  As some of you are aware we just buried my father-in-law on Labour Day ("u" added for Craig's enjoyment) so I am not up to speed again yet.  Hopefully I'll get my mind cleared soon of the sadness and other associated turmoil that comes with losing a family member, and things will start to pick up in the shop.  I managed to get some additional hangers in place today, ran some static cable, and have the blast gate in place for the compound miter saw.  I also have the branch-off in place to go to the second floor sweep.  Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

Anything worth dewing, is worth dewing well!

You still didn't say if you extended it into the house so your better half could have a central vacuum!

I don't care if the house is dirty, as long as the shop isn't lol!

Best to wait and delay a few weeks.  If you can't concentrate on the task at hand...you might end up loosing a hand.

I would wait if I could, but I have a project to do for a former co-worker / friend and it needs to be done soon!  Very soon!

Then from personal experience, sit in the shop a few moments.  Think and focus...clear your mind my old Jedi friend.

Been it that similar situation back in October of 08 when my dad passed away.  Mom wanted his cremains in an oak box...and said "Craig...I want you to make it because you were Dad's favorite".  She didn't say this in front of anyone else...it was the two of us.

I sat in his garage/shop for about 30 to 45 minutes after I bought the materials from Menard's based upon a rough plan/idea.

Then I sat in there another 30 to 45 minutes.  After a few hours, I finally made the final measurements and marks then lit off a power tool.

Just focus on what has to be done.

As Craig said, make sure your mind is clear and focussed before using power tools. I find it calming and restful to go and work with/on a project. It lets my mind take a rest from the grief and stress. When my Dad died, I went baling and picking bales (I was working for a farmer at the time). When my Mother died this year, I was having lots of problems with equipment at work, so that was where I went when I needed to relax.
Dewey, do what you have to, to let your mind take a rest from the grief and turmoil. I don't mean to take a permanent vacation from it, just a rest. Take your lovely bride for a walk, play with the dogs, whatever.

I managed to get the 2nd floor sweep in today beside the compound miter saw. I'm still waiting on a few parts to come in from Rockler.com  to finish up that run, and then early next month, if not sooner I should have the shop tidied up and be able to post some decent photos of it. I have to go out of state on some personal business around the 25th or so, and have a small job or three to finish up before then so time is tight. I got the floor sweep all in, angles perfectly set, most of the locking screws in place and wire ran inside the duct work when I realized I HAD NOT put in the gate valve last time I was down there like I thought I had. So I ended up taking the last few sections apart to remedy that little "oversight".

Some of you had rightfully mentioned about the many long runs and the possibilities that suction may be hampered.  I ran the floor sweep today and it was picking up fine sawdust and PVC dust as I swept it within 6" of the sweep.  Not too shabby I guess since I realized after I didn't have the gate valve in place on the scroll saw yet either,     I guess that will be one of the next issues to address before I completely succumb to CRS.

Too Late to edit, the parts from Rockler.com arrived late this afternoon, unfortunately, Rustee, our youngest schnauzer also picked that time to get violently sick. He's been under the weather and whimpering for the past 5 hours. So it looks like tomorrow before I even have a hope of getting back to the shop again. I'm hoping we don't have to make a run to the animal emergency hospital tonight, that get's rather espensive really fast, but we'll do what we need to do if he doesn't show any signs of improving.

    So Dewey,
before the weather gets bad you have to dig that ditch to the house to install the "DC" extension for the wife to have a central vacuum system.
I hope you didn't forget that!
If you dig it deep enough and wide enough you could construct a sideways "dumb waiter" so the wife could send your lunch to the shop as well!

    Good idea Gerry!

Of course, when he'd be expecting few hot dogs for lunch he might wind up getting one irate dog when it gets sucked into the hose.

Oh I can picture it now.  Dewey hears a rumbling sound coming through the 'dumb waiter' and stands in front of it...and out flies an irate miniature schnauzer looking to bite someone. Hmmm...better start video-taping these things Dewey.  You might win tens of thousands of dollars!

I made a few additions to the system about 3 weeks ago before going to build a deck and patio for friends, so here are the photos as promised, just a bit delayed.  more coming soon I hope.

The clear line goes to the compound miter saw, the other to the 2nd floor sweep.

I have the saw slid to the left for a clearer shot here.  the saw locks in place anywhere on the stand.

    The floor sweep

    The collection hood from Rockler

Below the saw is slid back and locked in front of the hood

Another angle of previous shot ^

A bleeee ableeee ahhhh that's all folks

i'll probably put osb on all the walls eventually.  I still have some wiring I want to run, which is why only a bit of the walls have been done so far.  Just not sure what all I am going to put in yet.
